Wangdi and Thimphu Festivals TourThis tour encompasses two of our most famous festivals and gives you the opportunity to see some of Bhutan’s most beautiful valleys and mountains. We will travel over a beautiful pass that is decorated with many, many prayer flags and 108 Chorten as we make our way to our first festival. The Wangdi Festival is located in the warm river valley where, even though the valley is in the Himalayas, the hillsides are covered with prickly pear cactus! The Thimphu festival takes place at the capital dzong, Tachichodzong, which is certainly the largest and most elaborately decorated in all Bhutan. September 24-October 2, 2009 Day 1: Arrive at Paro, clear immigration and customs. I will meet as you exit the airport and take you to the hotel in Thimphu, our capital. Orientation. Tour the town. Overnight at hotel. Day 2: After breakfast, visit the National Library to see some unique and historic books. Our books are not hardbound in the typical manner. Next the traditional Painting School and then the Traditional Paper Factory. After lunch, souvenir shopping or more touring, as you wish. Dinner and overnight at hotel. Day 3: Morning drive to Punakha via Dochu Pass (3100m). On clear days there are excellent views of the Himalayas. Visit Punakha after lunch to tour the famous and most important Dzong. Wangdi Festival in the late afternoon. Overnight at hotel. Day 4: The Wangdi Festival is a beautiful and popular festival where you will see many locals in their finest attire and view spectacular religious masked dances. Overnight at hotel. Day 5: After a morning a the Wangdi Festival, we will drive back to Thimphu over the same route we followed getting to Wangdi. Overnight at hotel. Day 6: Today we will go to the Thimphu Festival at national dzong of our country. This is one of the most elaborate and beautiful religious celebrations in the entire country. Overnight at hotel. Day 7: After breakfast, we will drive from Thimphu to Paro. After lunch we will tour the beautiful Paro Valley, visiting the National Museum, the Paro, Dzong, and several historic sites. Overight at hotel. Day 8: Leaving immediately after an early breakfast, we will hike to Taksang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest Monastery). . Lunch at Taktshang teahouse with its spectacular view of the famous monastery. Overnight at hotel. Day 9: I will take you to the airport in time to check in for your early morning departure.
