Bhutan Trek Sample Itinerary

DUR HOTSPRINGS

This is a very scenic trek to one of our natural hot springs which brings the opportunity to see varied flora and fauna including musk deer, blue sheep and even Himalayan bear.

March to May, September to December
17 days/8days moderate trekking
$3700 per person for groups of 3 or more, private rooms

Day 1: Arrive at Paro, clear immigration and customs, I will meet as you exit the airport, and take you to the hotel. hotel. Orientation. Visit the National Museum of Bhutan and Paro Dzong. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Paro Valley. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Morning drive to Thimphu and then on to Punakha via Dochu Pass (3100m). On clear days there are excellent views of the Himalayas. Afternoon sightseeing of the Punakha and Wangdi valleys. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Leave early for drive east. Stop for lunch at the Chendebji Chorten. Pass through Trongsa with a chance to see the Dzong before continuing to Jakar. Overnight at lodge.

Day 5: Sightseeing of Bumthang valley. Overnight at lodge.

Day 6: Bumthang to Gorsum, We being our trek with a fairly long 18km walk at a a moderate altitude of around 3000 m.

Day 7: Gorsum to Lungsum, 12 km walk at 3160m.

Day 8: Lungsum to Tshochenchen, 15 km walk, at 3400m.

Day 9: Tshochenchen to Dur Tsachu. A 17 km walk at around 3600 m brings us to the Hot Springs.

Day 10: We will spend the whole day at the hot springs, or if you prefer, wandering around the camp area.

Day 11: Dur Tsachu to Tshochenchen. We start our trek with a 17 km walk at a slightly lower 3400m as we begin our descent.

Day 12: Tshochenchen to Gorsum.

Day 13: Gorsum to Bumthang. The trek ends back in Bumthan with an 18 km walk.

Day 14: Bumthang to Punakha. Retracing our route back to Punakha, we'll have more a little more time at the Trongsa Dzong. Overnight at Lodge in Punakha.

Day 15: Morning drive to Thimphu. In the afternoon, take the time to visit a couple of handicraft schools and possibly do some souvenir shopping. Overnight at hotel.

Day 16: Sightseeing of the Thimphu valley. In the afternoon, visit Bhutan's oldest Dzong, Simtokha, and then drive to Paro. Farewell dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 17: I will take you to the airport in time to check in for your early morning departure.
